In India, about 40 bacterial isolates antagonistic to Xoo were identified through plate and field assays. Among those antagonists native strains of the rice-associated rhizobacteria Pseudomonas fluorescens and P. putida strain V14i (also used in biocontrol of the rice sheath blight pathogen Rhizoctonia solani) significantly suppressed BB severity when sprayed on leaves (Sivamani et al., 1987).
